Today I’m hosting a review stop for The Fallen Stars Blog Tour. On today’s stop I’ve reviewed the fantastic sequel to The Star Child by Stephanie Keyes (my review for The Star Child can be read here). Without further ado…

Blurb:

When all is lost, he will have to make the ultimate decision.

Kellen St. James was just your average seventeen-year-old prodigy, until he eighty-sixed the Lord of Faerie and proposed to the Celtic Goddess, Calienta. But then everything in Kellen’s life gets turned upside-down when he and Cali end up on the run from a seriously irritated group of faeries. The worst part? They have zero idea why they’re being hunted.

Suddenly, Kellen is stuck in the middle of another prophecy that foresees him turning away from Calienta and embracing the dark. He’ll be forced to take sides in a struggle to claim his birthright, while discovering secrets about his father’s past. Meanwhile, his passion for Cali grows stronger, even as the prophecy threatens to tear them apart.

In the end, will Kellen and Cali survive the fates? When the ultimate power is within reach, which side will he choose?

Review:

The Fallen Stars is the second book in the trilogy by Stephanie Keyes. I was lucky enough to have read the first, The Star Child, which I enjoyed immensely. So when I was given the opportunity to review The Fallen Stars, I was ecstatic.

The book picks up from where the first finished. I was immediately drawn, once again, into the world of Irish folklore and fantasy. I found Kellen’s point of view so refreshing in the first book and was so glad that Stephanie decided to continue with his narration.

The story jumps straight into an adventure with the protagonists Kellen, Calienta and Gabe on the run. Why they’re on the run is something you’ll have to discover yourself by reading the story. Luckily there were lots of twists and turns that kept me guessing and intrigued throughout the book. Initially there seems to be quite a bit of tension between the three characters which I found surprising but Stephanie does a brilliant job of keeping this under wraps until the time comes to reveal what exactly is going on.

There was a lot more suspense in this story and it balanced out the romance between Kellen and Calienta perfectly. Another plus point was the pace of the story. The Fallen Stars was definitely more fast-paced than The Star Child. Although I wasn’t too fond of this in the first book, Stephanie does an excellent job of making the turn events so realistic that a fast pace suits the plotline perfectly. I absolutely loved the pace in this book because it increased the tension and built up the suspense and made the climax of the story more enjoyable.

Stephanie’s writing was again a joy to read. Incredibly clear and precise and again, like the first book, was very easy to follow. Her descriptions of places and events were brilliant as well as her attention to detail. Stephanie’s writing style has quickly made her one of my favourite authors for fantasy fiction and I cannot wait to pick up another book of hers soon.

Overall, The Fallen Stars was a brilliant sequel to The Star Child, which I enjoyed immensely. A lot of new things were revealed about the protagonists, in this story which really added to the pleasure of following this epic journey with Kellen and Calienta. This is a fantastic novel that will leave you wanting more and is guaranteed to take on you on a roller-coaster of a journey. A must for fantasy fans!
